Flycatcher 07_01_05.jpg

I'm not sure of the identification of this little bird. I think it is some sort of flycatcher. It is a bit smaller than a house finch or sparrow.

This was taken in the mountains of Central Utah

It's a Wood-Pewee, and they're virtually unidentifiable by sight, sound and/or range are the only ways. Where was this taken?

Wood-Pewee

Oops, there I go again, forgetting there's no edit function on PBase. It's definitely a Wood Peewee.

Actually, it looks like an Alder Flycatcher. We have them here in Southern Ontario Canada too.

Nice catch, Bill!

Could be. My Birds of Florida has a little picture of the PeeWee without any detail. It looks more grey but is also a back shot. But it does have the peak on the head. Funny thing about the name. My long time Field Superintendent's nickname was Pee Wee. He just died of cancer this week at age 68. He had been retired for three years when he came down with lung cancer. While he had not smoked in 15 years I would expect he was another victim of the dreaded weed. Had a great life though.

John, with more study I'm thinking this is a Western Wood-Peewee.

Could be a Least Flycatcher, a little out of the range but not that much.
