July 1: The Prodigal Son Returns

Ft. Garland, CO

After traveling 1,496 miles over 12 days (7 short days on the road) via Yuma, Phoenix, Mounument Valley, Durango, Santa Fe and Taos, I have finally arrived in Colorado Springs, Colorado (my home town) where I will stay for the summer using it as a base for travels around the State.

Arriving in town I was greeted with a brief thunderstorm. (For my Southern California friends I need to explain that a downpour like this is the product of beautiful white cumulus clouds that pile up high in the sky and dumps wonderful cleansing water with a crash and a roar. Afterwards there is the most wonderful odor of freshness and ozone.)

As time permits over the next week or so I'll post more images of my entire trip, but for now it is time to settle in.

This image is Mount Blanca (14,435 ft. or 4,372 m. for my metric friends) about 90 miles as the crow flies from here. The view is from the San Luis Valley looking north after driving up from Taos.

Nicely composed. I like the layers and the big sky.

Proving Thomas Wolfe wrong again, you certainly can go home again. This is spectacular Robin. Vicariously enjoying your travels-can't wait to see more.

Beautiful landscape! Looks like your sensor has some specks though :( That is one thing I don't like about the SLR. Picked up a Giotto Rocket Air and it works well - esp since you can take it on a plane where as you can't take Eclipse fluid... BH has them...

Robin, what is that blue stuff up in the sky? Is that a new color smog?
Dan Chusid02-Jul-2005 00:29
You'll be bringing rain back with you, right?
