A closer look at the walnut pieces and the board...

The individual chess pieces have about 4 or 5 coats of lacquer, also rubbed to final sheen with pumice stone and parrafin oil. All but the upper half of the knights were fabricated on the wood lathe. The 'horse' part of the knights was fabricated using the bandsaw, oscillating spindle sander, and a little hand carving.
