After arriving at Kanchanaburi and paying my respects to the war dead (very emotional experience) and nipping in to the War Museum, I took a boat ride along the Maeklong river to the Bridge over the river Kwai and boarded the Death Railway train, which took us on a journey through lush forest scenery and over the railway built by allied slave labour. It creaks, it groans; often balanced on wood not stone: built on many thousand deaths, its views steal your breath.
