My husband and I went on a "hawk walk" at a birds of prey rehabilitation/nature centre near Victoria. This particular harris hawk is trained (like a dog) and follows you while you hike. The hawk is not tied up and can do whatever it pleases. My husband (seen here) just had to wear the handling glove and the hawk would come down and hang out with us - or fly away and join us again a little way down the trail. This hawk only recently returned to the centre, after disappearing for a year with a cetrain girl hawk. It was a truly fabulous day. However, I had my camera set on a high ISO by accident and could never quite catch anything in flight because the hawks were either too close or two far from whetever lens I happened to be using (this was the 80-200mm). I'll have to go back and try again. This was one of the better shots of the day so I'll include it in today's PAD
