The flock of Cassin's Finches on the side of the highway at Yuba Pass included a few Purple Finches, providing an identification test -- a test I flunked myself, as I posted a picture of a supposed male Purple that was in fact a Cassin's, as a number of viewers pointed out. This one is a classic Cassin's, with the striking red crown, and the raised crown feathers.
