1955 Chevy Bel Air 2 door pillar top

Virginia Beach, Virginia

My Dad had a Chevy Bel Air just like this one. I took my driving test for my driver's license in Dad's 1955 Bel Air a few days after my 16th birthday. That was back in 1963!! And I passed the driver's test. Dad's Bel Air had the new Chevy V8 and automatic transmission!! Growing up on a farm and learning to drive several different farm tractors that had shifters, it was a breeze driving that old Chevy. When I got my driver's license, that Bel Air had over 125,000 miles on it. Not long after that, Dad traded the '55 in on a new '63 Chevy!! Bigger V-8 and it would fly!!! Wish I had both of those cars today!!

Tom,

I love this picture & those of the '55 Bel Air. It brings back old family memories for me too. My Grandmother had one just like this, less the competition wheels, of course. She was not known for great driving skills & my Grandfather liked her driving it because it was built with plenty of "heavy armor" in case of an accident.
