My Camera Broke

I bought my Digital Rebel on June 8, 2004. Today is June 14, 2005.
I went to take pictures today, and they all look like this -- the
only part of the image that shows is the top 20% or so. I changed
lenses, reformatted the CF, took the fully charged battery out and
put it back in, you name it. It doesn't work.

Just to make SURE I'm having a bad day, I can't find my bloody
receipt either. I have the Mastercard statement, but not the receipt.
I have the original box, with many of the booklets and so on still
in their original packing material unopened. Just no bloody receipt.

It's REALLY REALLY REALLY frustrating me. I'd use other language
but you get the point.

I have a Canon SLR that is nearly twenty years old. Still works like
a charm. Cost maybe $250 USD and similar models still do.

But no -- this $1,000 "beauty" (out the door) breaks just eight
days after the bloody warranty is over.

And two weeks before my PaD is complete.

Makes me so mad.

Provide a copy of your credit card statement, that will do fine as a proof of purchase.

My experience with Canon Repair (for my S50) has been entirely positive. Good luck with this Gary - no fun at all.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you Gary, nothing worse than something breaking just a few days after the warranty is over.

Gary, I can understand your frustration, but you may notice there are no horror stories about Canon's customer service so this may be an easy repair, as Antonis suggested. I hope it's sorted soon.

Some time I got some photos like this and it was because I was using an external flash (not Canon) and after doing some exposure adjustments, everything became normal.
Also you can use the Canon Site for emaling them and you going to have a great help!!!

Join the club, mine was over 2 years old, and I think the shutter went by by. I did talk with Canon customer service and they were surprisingly helpful with follow up. I need to send it in to their repair center in Irvine and they will give me a quote for repair.
It was a good excuse for me to buy the EOS 20 D.

Really tough luck Gary, go to canon service, i've heard that they will help you out regardless of warranty.

Nuts Gary ... that is tough duty. And Herb's 10D broke the other day too.

If you didn't have bad luck you'd have no luck at all.
Listen to Jeremy; I just had incredible luck with Sigma-same thing, no warranty, no reciept, nothing, and I didn't pay a cent on the repair.

Oh no, Gary! Hope it works out!

Oh, poor you. How very frustrating. I've heard about that happening a lot to D70's lately-breaking at the 13-month point. I'm holding my breath. Take Jeremy's advice.
Guest 14-Jun-2005 20:22
Oooooh my gosh, I hope you can get it repaired!! Best of luck to you!

Sorry to hear this Gary. You're probably better off without the receipt since it's out of warranty. Tell them you bought it last June, but can't find the receipt. Last time I was in the Canon service center, they actually gave someone the benefit of the doubt in a similar situation.

This is not an expensive damage, ask the Canon service but I think that it has to do with the shutter. I feel sorry about it and I hope that we will have pictures from you all the next days.
