A wonderful moment of intimacy between Kate and her Dad, Robin just before we set off for the church. I love this photo and really hope they do too.
Today has been a hugely special one for me for many reasons – I have seen my friend of twelve years get married. That’s something wonderful in itself because she has had a great deal of unhappiness in her life in recent times. Looking at her and her new hubby, Dickie together, they look so ‘right’ that it’s hard to imagine they won’t be blissfully happy – they look truly made for each other.
Kate asked me to be her photographer many months ago and I found myself needing to call in the help of David who has photographed a number of weddings before. I just wasn’t confident enough to take the whole responsibility for her ‘big day’ alone as it has been a ‘big’ wedding and my first.
David and I divvied up the tasks – I did the following of the bride for the day, by the time this shot was taken, I’d already shot over a hundred photos of the preparations for the event. I took around three hundred pics and David, whose job was the church, the groom and the candid shot among the crowd of guests, took another two hundred and fifty or so. I think this should cover us for every eventuality!
In many senses, it was lucky as Kate’s Dad’s home was a perfect setting for the pre-wedding shots, the church was absolutely beautiful and their reception, in the garden at their home, was the perfect place for the formal shots.
It was stressful, scary and incredibly tiring but I think we did a really good job, having sat and looked through the photos later.
After we’d finished our ‘business’ for the day, we got the opportunity to sit and chat with two of my friends from work and their husbands. Half an hour or so of ‘chilling time’ before we made our way home to see the dogs and make sure the hens were safely away in their coop for the night and out of harms way from foxes.
It was hard work, but it was hugely enjoyable and now I’m looking forward to the rest of the weddings we are shooting this year.
Last year, I was meeting Colin, my buddy, for supper then a weekend of laying around in the sunshine here while DM was slumming it in a field in France! Two years ago, David was looking gorgeous in a Lotus!
