While driving through Montrose on the way to Delta, I was delighted to see a sign announcing "Rocky Mountain Mule Days." Being a great admirer of mules, donkeys, and burros, I decided to stop and check it out.

As I walked the fairgrounds watching all the festivities I was struck by the close bond of the owners and mules, as well as the pride with which everyone rode their mules.

This particular mule was about to have his shoes and hooves worked on. His owner stayed with him every step of the way.
