June 9: The Joys of Southern California Driving

Southern California

Today I drove 4 one-half hours roundtrip to Los Angeles for two hours of work. What the heck, I have to pay for all that camera equipment somehow. ;)

Navigating the labyrinth of Los Angeles area freeways is always a daunting venture. It does have its joys as well as its traffic jams.

Upper left here shows the Chino hills at I drove north toward Corona wondering why the brand new freeway was stop and go. Upper right shows why. The California Department of Forestry was using a crew to clear the brush from the shoulder. We do get fires here you know.

Then the biggest pain was CA 60 West into Covina. Lower left shows a little accident that backed up eastbound traffic for at least 10 miles, while on my westbound side gawkers (this doesn’t count us photographers) dropped our speeds to below 10 mph.

Finally (lower right) on the way home tonight heading south on I - 15 I caught my favorite bridge spanning the interstate. When I see it, I know I’m only 20 minutes from home.

A nice presentation. I would hate to be the guy raking the leaves!

Ufff! That´s the dark side, and at the other hand looking for the good side is that you had chance for taking some photos at the road :-s

I know what you mean! We visisted L.A. once and swore we'd never do it again...traffic was that bad.

I drove to Chicago yesterday for an AVID video editing software demonstration.
Usually this is a 90 minute drive for us. Traffic in Chicago can get nuts too,
this trip took almost 3 hours.
Coming home I skipped the expressways and took neighborhood roads from the "Loop"
to the Skyway and made it in 1/2 the time of those on 80/94.

I like your presentation of the 4 photos.
Well done.

Looks so much easier to just work from home! Whenever I visit LA, I try really really hard to avoid going cross-county for exactly this reason. You buys your ticket, and you takes your chances. Great job on the 4-for-1 essay shot.

Busy, busy. Looking for a chauffeur?

I like your photos so much that tomorrow I'm doing the same thing. I'll drive to LA in the morning and return at night. And remember, tomorrow is friday! That means, at least 3 hours to get back :^(

I like the shape of your favorite bridge. Terrific photo essay.

I am glad I don't have to drive to work these days.

It's sights like this that make me happy I don't have to face this sort of thing daily. I like the the guy tossing weeds.

Now this is the sort of photo essay I like to see here on pbase... I like getting to see other parts of the world in all their mundane glory. I think it is really interesting.

@Virginia Coastline (a.k.a. Pete) ... We were at a full stop, and I had my camera set on repeating. I just rolled down the window and pushed the shutter down for a series of shots. ;-)

Tells the story well, Robin. I especially like the worker with the pitchfork..... Texas Dept. of Transportation is about to install the third traffic light in the Village and we are really upset about it! When we moved here there was one!

Nice collage Robin, each photo has a great story. Sounds like you are much more patient that I would be.

Sounds like N.O. Very nice pictures from the chaos, especially the one of the man pitching hay.

I like how you captured the flinging of straw or whatever it is at the same time you are maneuvering thru traffic . .that's a quick shutter finger!!

I would go nuts.
Took me 5 hours to get home from the cape (usually 1.45 minutes) the last time because of one fender bender. I can't imagine dealing with this everyday. Good pics that tell the story.
So, what new goodies are in store for you :)))))
