My darling two year old Houdini escaped while I was asleep.
He unlocked the top bolt and bottom door knob.
It was strange how it happened. I was sound asleep, dead
to the world and all of a sudden I woke up. Call
it Mother's Instinct or God waking me up and I saw my
little baby crying. The light alert had been going on
and off but I was so out of it. I silently thanked the
Lord for waking me up so I could take care of my baby.
I got out of my bed to tend to her and to the VERY left
of me (exactly shown in the picture) I looked and saw the
front door open downstairs!
At first I thought it was my husband and that he hasn't
left for work yet. I looked at the clock and it said
7:42am. I said to myself, no way it is Bill because he
leaves at 7am sharp every morning. I ran into the hallway
into my son's room and sure enough there was an empty void
in his bed.
I went back in my room frantic, grabbed my bathrobe, and
flew down the stairs. I was experiencing the ultimate
terror. My throat was dry, I couldn't breath, and I
could feel myself hyperventilating. I did NOT know
what to expect outside.
As soon as I reached the door I braced myself and
ran outside the door to look for my son. I saw him
on his beloved blue tricycle in his pajamas. Not
riding it, just sitting in it patting it with pride.
I ran to him, kneeled down and gave him such a big
hug and a kiss. Zachary kissed me back and kept
patting his bike with a huge smile, saying "biketh,
biketh, biketh" over and over again. How could I get
mad at my two year old son looking at me with such a
sweet and happy expression because he was on his bike?
I admonished him, but saw that he really didn't
understand what he did.
I think what happened was that he woke up and was going
to walk into my room but saw the tricycle by the window
near the door. I had moved it the night before near the
front door because it was raining outside. He then got
tempted, walked downstairs, and you know the rest of
the story! I don't even want to think about how long he
was outside or what could have happened in the next
minute, half hour, or even hour or twoif I was still
asleep. It still sends shivers up and down my back.
My Zachary is ALWAYS trying to open or get into
things! A lot of times it makes me nervous because I
don't know what to expect next. I always have to keep
him within my eyesight.
To sum it up short---I went to Lowes Hardware Store
and got a chain for the door!
