The Will to Live

I bought this sweet potato WEEKS ago. It came tightly wrapped in plastic
wrap, I suppose to keep it fresher longer. I put it in the pantry, and
completely forgot it. Today, when retrieving something else, I found the
sweet potato which had sprung into action.

It was kept in the dark. It was not watered. It was completely wrapped in
tight plastic. And yet it fights for life. I dunno, perhaps I'm making
more out of this than is there. But this little sweet potato inspired me
today, so I took it's picture.

I know it's not art. I know it's not something I'll frame. But it is
something that meant something to me today, this sweet potato with a will to live.

So that's what it takes: darkness, no water and kept secure from the outside world...
Turning off the lights now, draining the well, and locking the doors.... we'll see.

You have to admire it's willingness to survive. A bit like cheering for the underdog... Good shot Gary.

You know what's really coincidental and ironic? I ate a sweet potato tonight!

I like your story very much. My Irish grandmother always had sweet potato plants growing in the house. If you suspend this one in a glass and fill one water to its midpoint, it will set roots and grow into a rather charming plant.

A wonderful metaphor for life.
