Lemons or Limes *

Backyard Brissie Oz

These have fallen from our lime tree, it seems if you don't pick them as limes they try to temp you to eat them by turning into lemons. Sneaky buggers a:-)

Mary Anne, I think you will like the 350D/Rebel XT but don't get the grip with it as it turns it into a wild beast only a bloke could handle:-)
Abs, I've toned the front ones down a bit.

Rod, I should have known that you would be aware of closing down the aperture and increasing the time. We're both old SLR users (I bought my first one in 1963, before many of the other folks here were even born, and it was manual only in those days. I carried an exposure meter around with me!), but I guess I forgot that you didn't grow up on p & s. BTW I really got a chuckle out of your description of how you staged this shot. LOL

i like this shot. nice disproportion...just enough background-blur and natural setting gives it a character.
somehow the front two lemons seem a bit "harsh"...light source makes it a little whitish and takes away the rich-yellow color...just a bit uncomfortable to my eyes. -Abstract

It is looking down Paul about 45degs, the two front limes/lemons were on a bonsai table about 1' off the ground. I threw small bark on the table around the limes to blend it with the ground......Am I clever or wot:-)

Having a lemon tree in our backyard i recognise this scene and i admit i'm fairly impressed with the disproportion. It actually appears to my eyes as if you're looking downhill. Why don't you cook something with the buggers rather than letting them rot? Lemon Curd is beaut, i'll send you the recipe.

Good shot, Rod. DOF is ok in my opinion, I see you already find out how to use your new toy ;-)

I'm finding it hard to remember to keep twiddling the settings, I shot the first lot of this subject on tungsten white balance:-) I left the rotten one in so IMHO it would look like fallen fruit & not what we bought at the supermarket, but your humble/honest opinion does have merit Rich:-) Mary Anne, this was shot on focal length 55mm as I couldn't get what I wanted on wide angle which would have increased the disproportion. The exposure was 1.3 secs at F32 on a tripod with no flash:-) I must keep an eye on changing the iso. This was hard work with the slr me back is killing me. Thanks all:-)

Interesting shot, Rod, but I think I would have used a tripod and longer exposure (no flash) in order to get more saturated yellows. Heck, the fruit's not moving, so you could use the smallest aperture (I don't know what it is on your new high-class camera!) and as long an exposure as you need. Thus, the disproportion might be more striking if the background is also in focus.

Good one Rod, I can see the disproportion and the subjects stand out well. I think you should have removed that rotten one in the middle though. imho Rich

Nice one Rod! You must have a green thumb! or shall I say greenish-yellow thumb :-) -Cat

Rod, Don't be afraid to bump up the ISO. That would have helped on the exposrure time and the aperature needed.
