The cathedral of Beauvais was never finished. It has the tallest vaulting of any Gothic cathedral, 48 meters under the choir. But money ran out before the nave was built. In the sixteenth century, more money was raised, but instead of building a nave, the bishop and chapter built a tall tower at the crossing of the transept. Without the nave to balance the forces, the tower collapsed not much later and was never rebuilt.
