Lava slowly flows from Pu’u O’o, the vent of the erupting volcano Kilauea, eventually making its way to the sea along the southern shore of the Big Island of Hawaii.
Hiking back from shooting the lava flow at the West Highcastle site, I turned and saw other pilgrims who had come to witness the awesome spectacle heading back to their vehicles parked some two miles to the west. Their forehead mounted lamps (white streaks) and handheld flashlights (warmer streaks) helped them to navigate over the irregular surface of the field of cooled lava and added interest (at least for me) to this image.
A week later my camera, tripod and accessories were stolen from our locked vehicle. A month later, and after much research, I ordered the Canon 20D. Three months later, I decided to try participating in my first CSLR challenge. Thank you for any constructive critiques and encouraging words. Mahalo. - Kelly
