The baroque St. Andrew's Cathedral was constructed in Kiev in 1747–1753 to a design by Bartolomeo Rastrelli. It is one of the city's most well known historical landmarks.
The church was built in place of the older Church of the Resurrection, on the location where, according to legend, in the 1st century A.D. St. Andrew prophesied the foundation of a great Christian city in what was then a sparsely inhabited area.
