This is Pete's boat. Shot through a bottle glass window in our front door. (Yes, still shooting through wobbly glass!) Though you can see the sea from our front door, it's quite a way down the hill, 10 miles away. But I'm worried as I saw another neighbour messing with a boat in his front garden too. Better get ourselves a tide-table book, Maybe we need to be prepared!
Alas, we still haven't been graced with our broad band connection. BT only have to switch it on. That's all. Still, with BT, getting anything done is near impossible. A few years back, when we were having some problems, I'd regularly wait for 40 minutes to get through to someone who had no idea how to help. A typical call:
Me: I'm having this problem, blah blah blah.
Them: Are you running a firewall, if so could you try turning it off?
Of course I was running a firewall. What sort of idiot did they think I was. Oh yes, one of their customers... Anyhow, the firewall wasn't causing the problem in any case.
After a few weeks of calling, the conversation had evolved:
Me: I've calling about call ref. no. whatever.
Them: Oh, I've got that marked as closed.
Me: Well I'm still having problems.
Them: Are you running a firewall, could you switch it off?
Me: Of course I am... what sort of idiot do you think I am...
And later to:
Me: I'm calling about call ref. no. whatever, the call IS still open, I'm still having problems and if you tell me to switch off my firewall I will shout at you!
Eventually, but only after we wrote a stroppy letter to the BT CEO, we got a site visit and the problem was solved. But this took months...
Now, you're probably wondering why we'd want to deal with BT again, but I'm not. I'm using a different company as the ISP, but, and here's the problem, BT owns the wires, so BT still have to connect you... Aggghhh!
