The Wake Island Memorial is dedicated to the men that defended the strategic island during the early days of WWII. The memorial was decommisioned some time after 1962, exact date unknown. The F4F cowling that was on the memorial was removed and was used to restore an F4F that is currently on display in the Carrier Aviation part of the Air and Space museum in Washington, D.C. The prop from the memorial is currently on display in the Marine Corps Museum at Quantico, Va.
