This is my son, Benjamin. He and his fellow University at Buffalo team members particpated in the SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers)Mini Baja East Competition in Palmyra NY this weekend. He is team captain this year and the team and car did really well. There are two more competitions, the Midwest Competition in Troy, Ohio and the West Competition in Tucson, Arizona.

The students spend all year building these cars themselves and this is the national competition that tests their efforts.

It is a three day event but today, Saturday May 7, was the Endurance Race. Four hours on a course that runs over hills, in the woods and through ponds. Steep hill climbs, jumps and deep water hazards.

Some of the schools competing were UB (Buffalo), Buffalo State, University of Michigan, Rochester Institute of Technology, Clarkson, U of New Hampshire, U of Central Florida, U of North Carolina, Georgia Tech, United States Military Acadamey at West Point, Auburn University, The US Cost Guard Academy, Air Force Academy, McGill University, about 60 schools in all.

Please take time to view more pictures of the race here http://www.pbase.com/dhnieman/mini_baja

Looks like quite a sport. your gallery of pix is interesting. Here you've caught Ben in a great way... being so intent on what he is doing.

A very handsome young man. It sounds as though he's involved in something that takes a lot of time and dedication.
