Straight from the camera, extra bit to the right cropped off & there it is. Approximatly an hour after sunrise (7am ) on the north coast of New South Wales.
Had trouble deciding today. High key can be good too don't you think ?

Amazingly good colors and sharpness... Like it a lot!

This main picture is terrific - it illustrates man sharing earth's natural resources with his fellow creatures.
Not sure about the 7am thing though - far too cold!

They're both great Laine, but I love the top image! The lighting's incredible, the silhouttes and clustering of the pelicans is a fabulous capture, but what strikes me the most is that because of the distane the human figure appears to be smaller than the birds. I love it!!!! voted!
snootydog04-May-2005 16:44
They are both excellent but my leaning is to the gold tones and silhouettes of this one. Its a glorious photo
Carmen03-May-2005 14:26
Like gold and silk, and silver and ice. Amazing how hard it is to choose sometimes between great pictures that are so different.
Cindy03-May-2005 03:14
I love them both Laine, beautiful captures, oh I how long to be near a beach.

I see reference here, to you "haning it up", at the end of your year....don't do it! You have so many wonderful images....like this one!....but there are so many more for you to shoot and, LOL, I think you can tell that you'd be missed!
Christina Craft02-May-2005 22:38
Beautiful image. I love that it looks like the birds are on shore being entertained by the human. Voted.
Paul Dovie Jr02-May-2005 22:03
I like the back lighting of the top one. Wonderful photo, has my vote.
Guest 02-May-2005 20:38
Wonderful shooting - if anyone can .......
Guest 02-May-2005 18:11
nice work!!! =D
Guest 02-May-2005 12:19
Both are great, but I really like the 2nd high key image ... intriguing! I'm enjoying month 5, and would be sorry to see you hang up your camera ... :)
petesie02-May-2005 12:18
You definitely made the right decision, although I like the second, also. This is wonderful. I voted, too.
Guest 02-May-2005 10:57
both are great shot. though i prefer the first more than the second....not usually a big fan of high-key. :)
Karen Stuebing02-May-2005 10:28
Super shot. The silouhettes really stand out against the surf. Like the high key too.
Chris02-May-2005 06:50
Excellent shot. I've gotten them 'straight outta the box' at sundown where the glare was so intense it washes all the color right out on it's own. Love the natural sepia the morning sun provided you. Great silouhettes.
Cliff02-May-2005 05:17
I like them both - but prefer the top because of the interesting colour of the light. I'd prefer though that the swimmer wasn't there because he competes for interest from the pelicans - but maybe that's me. Not someone you know is it ? LOL :o)
Karen Leaf02-May-2005 03:00
OMG.
Another v.
Elaine (etfitz)02-May-2005 02:05
Gorgeous! The light is wonderful!
Guest 02-May-2005 01:55
Excellent shot.....I think the pelicans can take him. They are bigger and there are 4 of them.
Guest 02-May-2005 01:46
wow this is soooo beautiful!
Cheryl Hawkins02-May-2005 01:15
This and the high-key version are both fantastic. I like the high-key a teny bit more, it seems so delicate.
Yvonne02-May-2005 00:57
I love the low key, that water looks absolutely magical & the birdlife swimmer is a bonus...its almost a monotone in that lighting.
Mindy McNaugher02-May-2005 00:24
Fabulous photo!
Linda Willets01-May-2005 23:46
Like both captures..this can't be your last month..I just discovered your photos this year.

Family day at the beach!
Lee Rudd01-May-2005 21:53
Pelican's dont fail for me, ever.... Lovely sunrise photo - I prefer the low key one.
Chuck Inglefield01-May-2005 21:25
Great photo. I like your original as is. The high key loses the mood for me.
virginiacoastline01-May-2005 21:24
these guys look like they are assessing the guy in the surf . ."OK everybody take notes . . .this will be on your exam. This is a good example of the Homus Erectus Chase-us"
Robin Reid01-May-2005 20:50
I'd do a middle groud... lighten up the pelicans more in the silhouette shot!
Please stay with us beyond 1 year!
Guest 01-May-2005 20:17
i love the humour in the silhouette shot of the pelicans watching the man going in to bathe.
Coleen Perilloux Landry01-May-2005 20:13
Great tones in this and the pelican turned just right for the capture. Vote.
jude01-May-2005 20:07
I love darkness but I like the high key one best.. very cool .. both of them.
Antonis Sarantos01-May-2005 20:01
