Fairy shrimp are small (1/4" long) Crustaceans that live in temporary ponds.
The eggs that this female carries are deposited on the pond floor and only hatch
upon return of water after the pond dries up.
They are closely related to brine shrimp or "Sea Monkeys"
This one is from a small pond in New Scandia Township, Minnesota
