Arthur McQueen Johnston, 1863-1949
Christopher Colin Johnston, 1855-1936
Isabella "Belle" Johnston Graves, 1845-1918
This is one of my favorite family photographs. Thanks to cousin Karen, we have this great brother-sister portrait taken in 1907 in Michigan, probably Flint. I never cease to be amazed at how they stayed in touch back then when such distances separated them. Yes, that is a full length, sheared, beaver coat that Belle is wearing - gorgeous.
Arthur, or Uncle Attie to many, was a very successful man with a farm of some 500 acres in a day and age when 100 acres was probably average in Ontario. I recently discovered that he was also a Mason.
