We were diving from a site just off of furness quarry today. It had a really steep slope starting
about 4 feet offshore. We were diving along a wall created to protect some of the ships coming
into the quarry to fill up. As a result of all the industriana there were several hoppers, etc
that had found their way onto the wall. This meant that there were several really big crabs.
But, the best bit, was my first shark. A three and a half foot dogfish (you'll appreciate that it
was probably three foot, but has grown as the weekend has progressed). We dived at this site
specifically as it was known for dogfish. I had hoped to see one, but thought it might be a
fleeting glimpse. This time we just carried along the wall, and found it resting on a patch of
sand. These are apparently really docile fish, so much so it didn't even mind that my dive partner
and I both picked it up.
The only down point to the day was on surfacing finding a howling gale, and horizontal snow. It's
a strange situation, when it's warmer under the surface, than on top of it.
