I went for a hike around Quaker Pond in Mendon Ponds Park this afternoon. I sat down on a bench near a swampy area and started hearing little squeaking sounds above my head. When I looked up, there was a nuthatch sitting in the crook of a tree. Surprisingly, he did not fly away right away when I moved to shoot his portrait. I did not have time to use a flash or change much in the way of camera settings, however, before he did vanish.
