April 12
The Dogwood bloom is beautiful and delicate. The four white bracts (not true petals) surround the small clustered flowers. The resulting red fruit is a major source of food for many song and game birds, deer and squirrels. Once a dominant understory tree in Tennessee, the numbers have dwindled in the past decade from an imported fungal disease.
