This capture of a Male Costa's Hummer shows part of the gorget and extensions transformed into glittering deep purple to violet when it is caught in the sunlight.
This photo was taken in the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum Hummingbird Aviary in Tuscon Arizona. Flash photography was not allowed and, I was very fortunate to capture this little guy resting on a branch in one of the very limited sunlight areas.
