Indeed something totally different from usual .....

The police-force is not beloved here in Tamil Nadu but where are they in the world? I know a lot of policeman personally as Madurai is like a big family, you meet a friend and somewhere in his family there is a policeman. Everybody wants to become a policeman here.
So they are cheap to get and although the government promise always a raise of salary the force is growing year by year. They have a hard job, even when they are in wait they have to sleep at the police-quarters.
The middle-class are looking down on them as they often resort from lower cast, now dominating them. Although Jayalalitha, prime-minister of Tamil Nadu is against bribery, it still happens a lot: me giving some roepies to a tricycle man, taken a bit further by a policeman cause the man parked wrong .... after drinking a tea with my money ????

I really don't envy their job as no one as respect for them and abuse of position is all around in their midst and most of them are very aware about this. I like to thank the police-men that I met personally cause they were very decent and gallant to foreigners.
