Continuing my 16mm theme from yesterday, this is an anamorphic projector lens. It is used to show
Cinemascope films. In the old days, wide format movies were squished horizontally when they were
put on film, and expanded using one of these lenses to make the picture wide again. You used to
see squished films on TV occasionally when they would neglect to use an anamorphic lens when they
ran it through a telecene projector to convert it for TV. You can just see the oval shape on the
back lens element in this picture.
