March 29B: Banner Grade

Near Banner, CA

Banner Grade looking East

Banner Grade is California Highway 78 from the intersection of the famous Butterfield Overland Stage Route to the old mining town of Julian. The road rises from 1000 to 6000 feet. It passes Banner where a cabin and the original mill are still standing. Between 1874 and 1926, the town was washed out by floods 3 times, and finally burned down in the 1930s. Several dirt road lead to old mines off the paved highway.

Nice view of a road I've driven many times. Not an easy nighttime route due to hairpin turns and no lights.

This is an awesome photo. I can't quite figure out why, but it looks like a scene in miniature to me. You know, like you might find on a model train set. Can't quite put my finger on why it looks that way to me but it does. I like the colors the intersecting lines and the dappling of light. Good eye double R

Great shot, I like it better than your PaD choise.

What gives? Year two means two PaDs? All right! This image (which is excellent, as always) reminds me of Mosquito Pass just outside of Leadville. Think we might have to transcend that pass when you visit...that is, if'n you're up to it ;-) No worries, I have a four wheel drive!

Oh, my! This is so beautiful, Robin.
