Banner Grade looking East
Banner Grade is California Highway 78 from the intersection of the famous Butterfield Overland Stage Route to the old mining town of Julian. The road rises from 1000 to 6000 feet. It passes Banner where a cabin and the original mill are still standing. Between 1874 and 1926, the town was washed out by floods 3 times, and finally burned down in the 1930s. Several dirt road lead to old mines off the paved highway.
