Well the big day had finally arrived, after months of training, we were ready for our first sea
dive. Being so excited, I was unable to sleep for any more than a half hour or so all night. I
was then up just after 6.45am, showered (which was met with the immortal line of "what are you
showering for if you're just going to jump in the dirty north sea" - my wife showing
her dismay at my excitement), and hit the road to the dive shop. True to form it opened late, but
I managed to get a pair of the all important neoprene gloves, which in the end, proved invaluable.
Finally got back to mine and met up with my lift for the day. From there we went and picked up the
tanks etc at the store, and got on the road.
An hour later we arrived on the harbour wall, and suited up - as you can see although I did shower
I didn't bother with my hair that day, forgot about the PAD in my excitement!
We managed to get two dives in that morning, the first one went really well, and I had a great time
looking at the local sea life, which was surprisingly abundant. On the second dive though the neck
seal on my dry suit must have creased. Every now and again I was met with a freezing cold gushing
sensation as the north sea decided to try to fill my suit.
This was taken just before the first dive, the reason for my uncomfortable look was the 32lbs of
lead I was carrying, and the neck seal on the suit being so tight my face was ready to go blue!
Technical notes - Water temp, was around 4 degrees, with 3-5m visability.
And just to add to the good mood, my sister-in-law was up this weekend. We then spent most of the
evening with her watching the Scotland game!
