One of the public libraries in Avignon is located in a "livrée cardinalice," one of the houses acquired and expanded by members of the College of Cardinals during the Avignon papacy. This particular palace belonged to Cardinal Ceccano, whose arms, in a fourteenth-century fresco, are behind a twentieth-century bookcase.
