The mirror end of the innovative Hobby-Eberly Telescope [HET] at the McDonald Observatory. While technically not in the Big Bend area, the McDonald Observatory is still in the Chihuahuan Desert and only a 45 minute drive north of Alpine, Texas, the closest USA city to Big Bend.
