The facilities on Mt Locke as seen from the road with the HET facility on Mt Fowlkes in the distance. While technically not in the Big Bend area, the McDonald Observatory is still in the Chihuahuan Desert and only a 45 minute drive north of Alpine, Texas, the closest USA city to Big Bend.
