DELOREAN

Well, It's St Patrick's Day and I wanted to post something Irish. I have had some great times in Ireland and always received a fantastic welcome from the Irish people. I wish I was sat in The Captains bar in Leixlip, just outside Dublin on the banks of the Liffey, rather than home at my computer. I know that the regulars will be enjoying the craic to the full, the atmosphere in there is always great, it's the only bar that ever managed to get me on stage (wearing a check gingham cap and long blonde pigtails) singing Bohemian Rhapsody on Karaoke night. Later on about 150 vikings climbed on the furniture to sing a rousing 'Irish Rover'. We fought many a good battle there during the annual salmon festival, burnt some longships and ravished some local maidens, followed by a good evening in the bar and sitting round the campfires until dawn. That was one festival we always looked forward to doing. My only regret is that we were too busy putting on the show, to get out and see enough of the country. I did however achieve a couple of ambitions and got to visit Newgrange (a spectacular megalithic passage tomb, older than the pyramids and Stonehenge) and Tara (Home of the High Kings of Ireland in the first millenium AD).

To all those who remember the days the Vikings returned to Ireland, mine's a Guinness :-)

Oh, for anyone who hasn't twigged the Irish connection - The car with the gullwing doors is a Delorean, designed by an American and built in Northern Ireland. (OK, it's a bit tenuous but it's the best I could do).

All comments are welcome as always. Thanks.

Hi Graham,

Love the pic. ... managed to get in touch with the man himself in 1993. Tracked Mr. DeLorean to Bedminister, New Jersey. At that time I was interested in going to the U.S. to study auto design ... he was very helpful. Very nice man, and a true engineering genius. Sadly missed.

This is such a beautiful car. Immortalized in Back to the Future. Remember?
