Selling Shoes *

Salsipuedes

Today, I went to a street called "La Bajada de Salsipuedes" to get some books for my daughter. This street has been for a long time a place filled with street vendors and you can find practically anything. It is full of small posts; so full, in fact that it is almost a tunnel now, very dark.

This man was selling "cutarras" a kind of tough leather shoes worn by the peasants here. I bought a pair for my son and his folklore classes. You can also see on the upper right a pollera, the folk dress of our women.

More on "salsipuedes'" meaning later.

Thanks you Vonnie I saw this guy again a few weeks ago, but I left this printed photo in my car, so I couldn't give it to him :(

Great image Humberto, I love the lighting on the subject. I'm thinking whether to crop the lady out on the right of the shot or to just burn her in. The nice lighting on the subject & dresses makes the flat lighted lady a very small distrction for me as I sense from the mood of the shot that the subject is alone with his thoughts. Great shot mate:-)

Thanks Lee! At the end of the challenge I'll tell ;)

Nugar, you know, when I saw your three entries (prior to your name and commentary), I thought they might be yours, but I never thought you would have submitted anything without your name and your usual helpful commentary. I'm glad the mystery is now solved. I like all three of them, by the way, but I think this one is my favorite.

Thanks Techo, After the challenge I may reveal what he was actually doing :)

For a moment, yes this photo reminded me of Lee. I knew something was very familiar ;) Very good choice of using that technique here. This fellow looks kind of sad or bored to me, waiting for customers it seems.

-Techo :)

Thanks Mike :) I should add that for B&W conversion I used a technique that Lee taught us: adjustment layer with gradient. I used the technique twice to get this look.

Nugar, this is a great shot. I love the contrast and how this old radio is adding to the “old shop” feel. Srf_Cast

Hi Mary Anne, As you see, it's me :)

Alex, thanks for your comment!

Pedro, si, there are a lot of photo oportunities on the markets. And bargains too ;)

Really great shot, Nugar. It's so sharp... I see you also like street-markets, something so common here in LAmerica.. saludos

He looks as if immersed in a dream seeing all the thousands of his past customers
