Essential Office Equipment

Tuesday 8th March 2005 - Day 80

I thought I was in favour of open plan offices, I suppose as a concept I still am, but when trying to concentrate I find them so noisy when I need to concentrate! So the solution is to block out noise with other noise... err music. I've a somewhat eclectic selection on my iPod - from 70's prog rock to Gaelic folk with all stops in between. I haven't been caught drumming or singing (yet) only time though.

I invested in an inexpensive pair of noise-cancelling headphones a while ago, really for flying. They make a world of difference. But they work very well in the office environment as well.

I've also mastered the knack of noticing the phone ring, well usually anyway, as I can just about see the LCD on the phone in my peripheral vision.

Last night was my camera club meeting. There are three competitions a year, and last night was the judging of one, the theme being gardens. I won the colour print competition! Its the first photo competition I have won, so I'm happy about it. This is the winning image, taken last year in the Netherlands, in pre-D70 days

Nice shot. Open air offices are just that--germ hatcheries and such lack of privacy it is abominable.

I seem to have mastered the knack of switching my ears off and today's been one of those days!

Hmmm, there are times when I would like a pair of these, but then I wouldn't get to hear the Babblers :>)
