Thanks. I didn't think it was Harlan's so I just consulted with some experts. They say it is a rufous-melanistic Western (caluris) Red-tailed Hawk, not a Harlan's. Still, it is the only one I've ever seen that looks like this, and I feel fortunate to have captured it in flight.
