Cycled in to Chester today - my fortnightly date with the job centre to sign-on. They're very nice, but not really set-up for my type of role. Someone seems to have installed some extra hills since I last risked the bike - but my all-yellow jacket looks a bit police like, and it was great to shoot past the queuing cars. Even some of the hand signals came back to me :) Might have to conduct the training band sitting down later! But I do feel on the moral if not the physical high ground. I'm sure the pain will reduce if I keep it up!
This is one of my favourite shots in Chester. Just to see the interlinking canal, rail and road systems spanning each other as well as the years. I'll try in summer to catch boat, train and car! - oh just noticed I did catch a cyclist, middle left :)
However it's worth following below. The canal skirts the walls of the City, running through a tremendous man-made 'cut'. Here's the cutting (City is on the right - the road running over it is right into the centre), together with the marks on the wall where the labourers toiled away all those years ago.
I think this is a juvenile cormorant - anyone know?
