We arrived in Zion National Park on a dreary, rainy day, and spent much of the time shooting the splendid waterfalls which now populated the canyon. While we loved the water, a glimpse of the sun would have added a measure of color to the images captured during this visit. This photograph represents the sum of the sunlight we saw this trip.
We awoke before sunrise on this day hoping to see clear skies, but were greeted by more rainfall. However, it quickly stopped, and even broke to reveal some blue skies. We hurried into Zion Canyon to shoot what we could in this brief interlude in the weather. This was our second stop in Zion Canyon, and our best. The light and clouds were playing on the Court of the Patriarchs with amazing splendor - the toughest part was trying how to best integrate the foreground with the incredible 'action' which was going on in the background. I love this image - especially the way that the eye is drawn to the brightest, and most distant part of the photograph, where a waterfall was now running...
