This is one of my favorite locations in the Zion Narrows – about a mile and a half up the canyon from where the trail leaves off. In the indirect light this area is absolutely magical – and turns the color palette into a very weird mix of lush filtered greens, and dense reds of various shades. I chose to overexpose this image about one stop to give it a very light and airy feeling, almost dreamy. You’ll notice that because of the strong indirect light in the canyon coming from all directions, there are almost no dark shadows…the lighting is quite unique at this time of day in the narrows (late afternoon). This particular day I was alone in the Narrows, and it did feel very much like the Garden of Eden at this time. Canon G2: 1/25 sec, F/5.
