Peace-loving folks (the "anti-war prosters") are on the opposite side of Rt. 35 (same side as Ft. Monmouth).
One scant block away from the location depicted in the "check your fluids" photograph (this gallery).
(that's at http://www.pbase.com/rsub8/image/38188043 )
The folks shown here began their marches about 1 year after the other folks.
It's interesting that behind the "patriots" are an Exxon and a Mobil station
(on opposite sides of the block; they are standing in front of the Exxon property).
"Left Lane Must Turn Left" takes you into Fort Monmouth.
Edit: Fort Monmouth is slated to be closed, according to the government's BRAC list released in May, 2005.
This will result in a loss of 4,652 civilian and 620 military jobs. That's the second largest of 33 major bases
slated for closure (largest is New London, CT: 952 civilian and 7,096 military jobs cut).
Note that Fort Monmouth was a largely civilian facility used for scientific research and development purposes.
UPDATE, June 20, 2007: Lawmakers Vow to Get to the Bottom of Possible BRAC Improprieties
"Since 2005, we have maintained that the decision to close Fort Monmouth
was based on incomplete and flawed information. Allegations raised by an expert inside the BRAC process
raise the troubling possibility that information was cherry-picked for the BRAC Commission
in order to reach a decision pre-ordained by the Department of Defense."
