After the Ball

New Orleans, Louisiana

The last two Carnival Balls of the season were held tonight for the Krewes of Rex and Comus. This is always the culmination of the carnival season which begins on Twelfth Night, January 6. At least 100 organizations held Balls during this time. Carnival parades began 10 days ago and ended today on Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday).
The Carnival season is over for another year and sackcloth and ashes begin tomorrow, supposedly.
If there are any people from Sweden or the Netherlands who read this, tonight the Ambassadors to the United States from Sweden and the Netherlands were presented at the Rex Ball and the orchestra played the beautiful national anthems of those countries.
It's time to put away the Mardi Gras beads, masks, gowns and finery.

I'll bet there are several PAD people who would just love to borrow those things! I think you folks down there have just a little too much fun. ... Nah, you can never have too much fun. Sackcloth and ashes tomorrow, not to mention a smudge in the middle of the forehead. Cheers.
