James E. Schueler

Heritage

Heritage-undercut.300jpg.jpg        Description:    The first Schueler family coat of arms.
        Wood:Mahogany - Philippines
        Finish:Satin Varathane Varnish.
        Size:21"H x 14"W x 1"D
Notes:Wood was found in an old storage room at the former Smith-Nuppnau lumber yard on Indiana Avenue in Valparaiso. The design was entirely fabricated. Symmetry of the overall piece was achieved by drawing the left half first, transferring the design to the wood using carbon paper, rotating the paper 180 degrees about the center vertical axis, and repeating the tracing using carbon paper. The rough texture of backgrounds on the main shield, the three small shields near the top, and the two small circles at the bottom was achieved using multiple impressions of a nail set.

other sizes: small medium large original auto

I stumbled on this picture while searching for wood grain textures to use on furniture in Second Life.

I was so awe-struck that I studied this image for a half hour! This is, quite simply, the single most amazing piece of woodwork I have ever seen. Words fail to express my admiration.
