The barrel should match the trigger plate to be considered a matched gun. Many Maynards are found with two serial numbers. As long as one of those numbers match the trigger plate number, it is considered a matched number rifle. No number indicates an after market purchase from Maynard. The company provided extra barrels to fit any of their rifles. Sets of three, four or more barrels along with the basic action and butt stock are found. These sets included loading tools for each caliber and were sold with a leather covered fancy case.
