A picture of lake Howden, which is right outside a hut by the same name. After we returned from Key Summit we spent the afternoon by the lake and were entertained by the people who attempted to swim in the lake. We thought for sure the Finnish couple would make it, but I don't think they made it past 45 seconds.

We stayed at Howden Hut for the night, which is less than an hour from The Divide, the trailhead at the end of the Routeburn track. The next day we were supposed to be at the The Divide by 7:45 am to be picked up by Fiordland Wilderness Experience for a sea kayaking day trip in Milford Sound. When the warden received the weather forecast for the next day, she wrote this on the board in the hut: "Complex low moving in. Winds up to 100kph. Heavy rain warning". Hmm, perhaps we wouldn't be kayaking after all.
