Beech Forest

Most of the forests we hiked through in New Zealand were beech forests, which had a lot of ferns, mosses, lichens, and perching plants. The last bit of forest before we reached Lake Mackenize was so lush with moss growing on every available surface that it looked like the forest was covered with thick green carpeting everywhere.
