The tree that is featured in some of the sunrises was lying flat on the ground several years ago, uprooted by a windstorm that damaged many trees along the coast.
This storm survivor has been diligently lifting itself to the sun, compensating for the lean at its base, the same way as does a spine that sits on an unlevel pelvis, serpentining all the way up like the first letter of the crooked condition, scoliosis.
