Tallahassee / Quincy, Florida

Cold nights, … seasoned oak & maple, … sharp ax.
There’s an old saying, … “Firewood heats you twice, ...
once when you cut it, ...
once when you burn it.”
A man has an ample supply of seasoned hardwood set aside for winter.

The temperature is supposed to get down to 23 degrees tomorrow, … cold
for northern Florida where we live. Our old farm home has two fireplaces,
(one of them large enough to hold 3 & 1/2 foot logs), and an outside fire-pit
to enjoy on cool spring and fall evenings as well as year around “trash wood”
burning. I’m very fortunate that my wife is as much of a pyro as I am.
With over three acres of mostly hard wood on our land, she always has
plenty of “play-fire” material. Click on small image for full sized image.

Thanks Dawn! Now there's a great idea for a future picture!! LOL!! I sure do love the winters in N. Florida, but alas, they never last long enough for me and in the middle of a hot, sticky day in August, I start longing to be in Montana, Maine, Canada... just about anywhere up north!

John,

I have an old saying too -

"When there is frost on the pumpkin, its time dicky dunkin',
when it is hot and sticky, its not time for dunkin' dicky"

I think both of these work for living in the beautiful state of Florida.

I love wood, it reminds me of Montana and it also reminds me to watch those men chopping it with their tight jeans! Nice job.

Oooh Dawn, … you are SUCH a troublemaker aren’t you? Humph! I’ll have you know I CAN swing a mean ax, … but like everyone I make mistakes too. Did you notice the broken ax-head lying on the one log? A result of a misplaced strike and the force of the swing broke the ax-head right off the hickory handle. We have so much HARD oak, that I think we’re going to rent a log splitter next weekend to split the bigger ones. $65.00 for the rental from Saturday Morning until Monday morning is certainly worth the hours of sweat it would take to split all these logs, ... only a tiny portion of which is showing in the image. The older oak is over two years old and is as hard as iron.

Hmmm.. Now where is Gerie's shot of you swinging that Ax? Hmmmmmmm? ;)
