Window Frame / 16 Jan 05

I still need a lot of practice and help with partially desaturation and selecting part of the images. I only know to use the lasso, which is hard to do, since once I let go of it I have to start from the get go, or the wand, which does not always select the parts I want to select, or selects to much. Anyone who could help me, or give me advise, please do so. I still struggle with that part of PS amongst many others, but this one really gets me frustrated. Thanks.

Nice shot, I usually Desaturate the entire image then go over the parts with the History Brush Tool. Keep up the Good work.

Photoshop can frustrate anyone. Google "Photoshop tutorial" on the web and you'll find all sorts of helpful stuff. You did a wonderful job here.

I think you did fine with the selection here-my thoughts were to use the shift and alt keys also. What a time saver!

Nice. You managed to enhance the three-dimensional look by leaving the window frame saturated. Selective desat always works best when it accomplishes something that otherwise might not have been accomplished by desaturating the whole photo.

I think you did a great job, Susanne. I do agree with Gayle. I use the inverse a lot. Also, remember that you can add or subtract to a selection, using the lasso, by using the shift and alt keys!

Is the frame blue? Rather than desaturate the master, choose each channel in turn except the blue channel... of course, that assumes that there is no blue in any other picture element, including the sky in the window. Gayle's suggestion also works.

That said, this is a nice effect and looks like a window into the scene - pun intended

Susanne, that's what I use also. Or if the area is small and thin like this I use the wand to select everything I don't want (raise your selection tolance to make it select more or lower it so it doesn't select to much) than choose Select, Inverse. That will select, in this case, only the blue.

But it does look like you did really well without any instructions!!
